Rock Wren

Our first siting of the Rock Wren: Fort Davis Historical site, Fort Davis, Texas 11/04/2023

Pulling in to FT. Davis Historical site around midday we were not expecting much bird activity for a late afternoon visit, matter of fact the place closes at 5pm and didn’t leave much time at all to saunter. We walked down the side of the massive complex between the barracks and mountain side and it was absolutely silent, deciding this was a bust we decided to hike up the first trail called “Store Post” we believe.  Climbed up the short path, enjoyed the overlook of the fort and started to descend…

About this same time TAPS starts playing from the fort, most likely it plays on some automated loop, but it also evoked the song of a Rock Wren.
